"How to take care of yourself in your NHS hospital" was piloted at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and launched at Ipswich Hospital Trust. It has also been taken on board North East Essex PCT’s Busting the Bugs bus.
Gwen Collins, director of nursing and quality at Ipswich, said: "The film supports what we, our patients and community feel is vital to improving patients' safety and their experiences of being cared for in our hospital."
David Baker, NE Essex PCT patient safety manager, said: "We took the bus to 10 different locations and had about 400 people coming on board. Those who watched the DVD said they liked the mnemonic PINK and thought it would help to jog their memory. They also thought that people should be more involved in their own care and they should feel able to ask questions or remind staff about hand washing."
During 2008 Imperial College's Patient Safety Team will be conducting a research survey for NHS Training for Innovation to test the effectiveness of the DVD in a range of situations. This will help NHS trusts who will be using the DVD in the future and inform NHS Training for Innovation's overall programme of future patient safety material.
